In September of 2000 I received an email from Ms. Susan Blantin, complimenting on how wonderful our web site is and informed me she was a descendent of Lewis Goshern. I found it very interesting that I had not yet come across the spelling of Goshern (other than thinking they were typo’s) and pressed her for more information. She directed me to her nephew Bobby C. Lilley. Bobby was able to give me the names and relationships of about 100 Goshern family members. More importantly, he relayed the story behind the Goshern spelling, “…I was told by Susan's father (Lewis M.) that the name GOSHERN came into being during the Civil War to distinguish the GOSHORNS that lived South of the Ohio River across from Cincinnati and the ones that lived on the North side of the River.....whether this is true or not I do not know….” --Bobby Clinton Lilley 09/19/2000

In January 2004 Thomas Nugel, who lives North of Stuttgart Germany, sent me this photo of the Ganshorn family crest:

On 05/10/2009 I received an email from Elizaveta Johann, who believed that we had a common ancestor in Georg Bernhard Ganzhorn (b; 1747). Much to my pleasant surprise, she told me Georg had moved his family from Germany to Russia in 1764 settling in Anton. This is the first I have heard of our family moving from Germany to Russia. She sent me data of her direct line from Georg to herself, which I have now included. Welcome, Liza and relatives, to our every growing multinational family.

Data from Rhonda Bertsch: Fredrich was in the Civil War under the name Frederick Badge. Apparently his accent was so bad that his name was mis spelled. He was wounded and spent time in Andersonville prison, almost dying there. When he was released and sent home, but he was listed as AWOL and it took some time for him to get that taken from his record.
